Types of strawberries and their properties

There are over 20 species of Fragaria classified in botany, many of which are derived from the hybridization of European and American varieties.
Here are some of the most common varieties and their properties:
Candonga: This variety is very widespread for its excellent organoleptic characteristics. It produces medium-large sized strawberries, with compact pulp and high sugar content. It is notable for the resistance of its fruits and good productivity throughout the harvest period.
Antea: Early and capable of producing juicy and sweet strawberries, this variety is an excellent product for trade thanks also to its resistance to post-harvest processing.
Chiflon: Another early variety, with medium-large strawberries. It differs in its more acidic taste compared to Candonga and Antea. It is resistant to temperature changes, making it ideal for cultivation throughout the Mediterranean basin.
Melissa: This plant has significant productivity, is early and rustic. It must be controlled in the development of strawberries that may be of excessive size. It is appreciated for the quality of its production, its taste results and its resistance to environmental stress.
Sabrina: The beauty of its fruits is one of its main characteristics. During their maturation process, Sabrina strawberries retain their sugary and slightly acidic taste, a firm pulp and excellent resistance to post-harvest processing.
Alba: With an elongated and shiny conical shape, it has good production and early maturation.
Arosa: Rustic, rounded shape and resistant to the touch, with medium production.
Belrubi: With an elongated shape, large in size and with a high sugar content.
Carezza: With a regular conical shape, large in size.
Darselect: With an intense red color, large in size, with a very sweet flavor and a real strawberry aroma.
Inspire: Patented in California and grown mainly in Basilicata in the Province of Matera.
Each variety has specific properties that make it suitable for different uses and cultivation conditions.
