Electric Vehicle Mechanics

The exact number of electric vehicle mechanics in Europe is a mystery as there is no data available, but there is a significant shortage of these professionals in several countries.

In the UK, for example, a shortage of 25,000 electric vehicle mechanics is expected by 2030.

In the US, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that there will be a need for 80,000 new electric vehicle mechanics per year through 2031.

In Australia, it is estimated that there will be a shortage of nearly 10,000 mechanics by 2030.

This shortage is mainly due to the high cost of training and equipment needed to repair electric vehicles, which have complex and potentially dangerous systems, such as those that operate at 400 and 800 volts.

Because of this shortage, many motorists are forced to resort to expensive services from franchised dealerships, which increases maintenance costs.

In Italy, there is no specific data available on the number of mechanics specialized in electric cars, but it is likely that a similar situation will be found here too, considering the growing diffusion of electric cars and the need for specialized maintenance.
