Gravel Worlds, an event that has been running since 2008, is a significant event in the gravel cycling community. It is known for its unique spirit and challenges, featuring a 150-mile race that includes over 10,000 feet of climbing through the rural farmlands of Southeastern Nebraska.

The event is fully self-supported, with no drop bags or outside support, emphasizing a do-it-yourself approach.

The event has evolved over the years, with the 2025 edition promising to be an unparalleled challenge for gravel enthusiasts. It offers various race distances, including the 150-mile main event, a 75-mile option, and a 35-mile event for those new to gravel racing.

Gravel Worlds has also expanded to include a run series with a 50k Ultra Marathon, 25k run, 10k run, and 5k run.

In 2024, the event saw an increase in prize money and charitable initiatives, with the pros competing for $15,000 in prize money split among the top five of the pro races, and the organization matching the prize purse with charitable donations.

The event is not UCI-sanctioned, but it has gained significant recognition and notoriety in the gravel cycling world.

Despite the UCI’s creation of its own Gravel World Championship, Gravel Worlds has maintained its unique identity and traditions, such as awarding off-beat rainbow jerseys and metal swords to winners.

The event has also faced criticism from some US riders who have opted to skip the UCI Gravel World Championships in Belgium to focus on the Life Time Grand Prix series, which offers more financial incentives and better suits their racing style.

Overall, Gravel Worlds is celebrated for its grassroots approach and community spirit, making it a beloved event among gravel cyclists.
