Exercising in areas with polluted air can increase the risk of health problems, especially for young children, the elderly, and people who work or exercise outdoors.

Air pollutants can negatively affect the functioning of the body and memory, and can cause respiratory problems and allergies.

When you exercise, you breathe in more air and take in more deeply, allowing pollutants to penetrate deeper into your lungs and avoid filtering through your nose. However, the risks of diseases related to inactivity are significantly worse than those resulting from exercising outdoors in polluted air.

To mitigate these risks, it is recommended to minimize exposure to pollution, for example by reducing the time and intensity of physical activity based on air quality, avoiding roads and highways, preferring to exercise in the morning rather than in the evening, and staying away from areas with high concentrations of particulate matter on the ground.

Additionally, using devices to monitor air quality can help you choose the healthiest routes. Alternatively, you can do physical activities in gyms or at home when air quality is at its worst.
