Mountain biking in Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc is one of the sports activities during the summer, with various types of trails.

However, not everyone agrees on the expansion of these trails. For example, the associations Pro Natura Ticino and Stan – Società ticinese per l’arte e la natura – have decided to appeal against the municipal authorization to transform 36 km of trails into mountain bike trails on Monte San Giorgio, a UNESCO world heritage site for its fossils.

The supporters of the project argue that the new mountain bike trails can attract a significant number of new users, thus repositioning the tourist offer of San Giorgio on a regional, national and international scale.

This is a problem of considerable magnitude, therefore they urge environmentalists to avoid making this area too commercial, to the detriment of the well-being of fauna and flora.

Furthermore, these different natural environments could be damaged in the long run, especially due to the poor civilization and education of some visitors to these wonderful places.

The associations Pro Natura and Stan believe that the policy of promoting mountain bikes trivializes the uniqueness of Monte San Giorgio, making it a noisy and crowded place.

According to these associations, the use of this type of sport in a landscape of such naturalistic and cultural value must be planned and not authorized everywhere, even in the most precious landscapes.

In conclusion, these new tourist and sports opportunities also bring concerns about the environmental and cultural impact of such expansion.
