The Uncensored Library Free Press

The Uncensored Library is a Minecraft server and map designed to combat censorship and provide access to banned journalism in countries with limited press freedom.
It was created by Reporters Without Borders and the Minecraft design collective BlockWorks, among others, and was first introduced on March 12, 2020.
The library contains around 300 books distributed across twelve wings, each representing a country where information may be limited. The library is regularly updated and expanded, with recent additions including texts from Brazil, Belarus, Eritrea, and Iran.
The library is accessible through a Minecraft server or can be downloaded locally. It uses a neoclassical architectural style to resemble well-established institutions like the New York Public Library, symbolizing freedom of knowledge and the power of truth against oppressive regimes.
The library aims to reach young people and provide them with access to independent information in countries without press freedom. It leverages Minecraft’s global popularity and the game’s freedom of player action to create a unique platform for spreading awareness about press freedom.
Journalists from each country provide the library with their articles, which are then transformed into Minecraft books.
The library includes articles from journalists like Javier Valdez from Mexico and Yulia Berezovskaia from Russia, among others.
The Uncensored Library raises awareness for the importance of press freedom and provides a platform for censored journalists to reach a global audience.
