Topeak Gearpack Frame Bag – Review

The Topeak Gearpack frame bag is an accessory dedicated to Gravel and MTB cyclists; the container, made of nylon, is equipped with three sections with internal organizers that hold the tools to avoid clutter.
The size is 15x11x9 cm and its weight with some of those recommended by the company reaches 111 g.
The bag is fixed by means of two anti-scratch polyurethane straps (13 x 330 mm), but even if fixed to the frame tube, it tends to slip, and also scratches or dulls the part where it is fixed. In fact, Topeak, knowing about this problem, relieves itself of any problems in this sense, therefore recommends filming the area.
The bag only fits tubes with a diameter between Ăž35 and Ăž90 mm, which means that it is not suitable for all models of MTB frames, especially e-bikes.
The bag is compatible to insert inner tubes up to 29″ x 2.4″ and other tools necessary for excursions. At least that’s what you read on the shop websites. But it’s not as it seems. You have to be careful of the bag dangling which can be dangerous if you practice enduro or excursions in particularly impervious areas.
Furthermore, the bag does not close completely and you could find your objects soaked in water and mud, which does not make it perfect for the most demanding excursions in rain and snow.
The weight of the bag with the straps is 13 g, but this says little because then you have to put the necessary objects inside and, if we insert what we need, it is easy to get well over 111 gr.
In short, if you are looking for a frame bag for your MTB or gravel adventures, the Topeak Gearpack Nero frame bag is not the perfect choice, except for some specific precautions, including bagging the internal objects, but at this point it is better to turn to other bags.
In fact, there are containers on the market that can hold everything you need that help keep the essentials in order, but more protected from water and mud, especially that do not bounce when you ride a bike.
