What is the purpose of hair on a new tire?

Rubber hair is the so-called air vents. Due to the production process, these arise from the tire-shaped ventilation ducts.
These are more pronounced in freshly cleaned tire molds, but decrease significantly as the number of vulcanized tires per mold increases.
Depending on the rubber mixture and profile, there are sometimes more, but often significantly fewer air vents.
Air vents are indispensable for the central vulcanization process in tire manufacturing, simply put: the air must be removed from the mold, as the air cushions that would otherwise be created prevent proper vulcanization.
We are conducting intensive research on this topic, but unfortunately at this point there is still no suitable and feasible technical solution to completely remove the Airvents after production without damaging the tire tread.
The above explanation comes from Schwalbe press spokesman Steffen Jüngst.
